Newspaper readership measurement shake-up
The Newspaper Works has announced an open tender for newspaper readership measurement. Details of the tender are yet to be announced, however, it is likely to include requests for tendering companies to provide measurement of newspapers across multiple platforms including print, online and mobile. The Newspaper Works is collaborating with all industry stakeholders including the Media Federation of Australia (MFA), the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA) and the Advertising Federation of Australia (AFA) on the tender. A technical committee will be established on behalf of The Newspaper Works by Ian Muir and will include representation from key stakeholders including the MFA, which has endorsed the decision to call a tender. Michele Levine, CEO of incumbent readership measurement company Roy Morgan Research, told Fairfax Media that the company would boycott the tender process. She said the company would keep conducting its survey and selling the data and let the market decide which research it trusted.
